Built around the car, not the number.

A trackday customer wants every photograph of their car in one place. Reading a race number needs legible digits; a vehicle signature does not, so the pack shot lands with the clean front-straight pass.

Shared cars and endurance entries are the exception: the collection is the car, so your stint information names the driver.

A day at the circuit never gives the same view twice. Grouping on the car, not the number, keeps rear views and pack shots together.

Front, side and rear views

One car looks like three head on, in profile and from behind. Signatures carry across all three; a number cannot, because corner exit shows no digits.

Similar cars and liveries

Two team cars in matching livery, or two silver road cars, are the hardest case a trackday hands you. Damage, wheels, trim and decals separate them.

Hidden or unreadable numbers

A clear race number is a convenient label, nothing else. Hidden, blurred or never fitted, it changes what the collection is called, not where the photograph goes.

Traffic, a car half out of frame, a distant subject: a frame with two cars belongs to two customers, and is worth more.

03 / The workflow

From a full card to a finished gallery.

  1. Add the event

    Bring the event in and keep your own backup, with the event details delivery needs. Previews go up for cloud analysis, so a connection is required; full-resolution originals stay on disk.

  2. Group by vehicle

    Run the sorting pass over the whole event, up to 7,000 images per minute end to end on a fast connection. What comes back is collections, not suggestions to confirm frame by frame.

  3. Review and correct

    One pass over the result: merge two collections of the same car, split a mixed one, rename it, move a stray frame. The one point that asks for your eye.

  4. Finish the edit

    Pick the frames worth delivering, edit them, export full-resolution JPEGs. Sorting and choosing your best work are different jobs; only the second is yours.

  5. Upload the finished files

    For a connected RaceLabs website, upload the prepared files to the event. The Lightroom Classic export plugin sends JPEG renditions straight there.

  6. Publish the gallery

    Publish to your connected gallery: event title, vehicle labels, previews, products, downloads. Without it, collections save as ordinary folders on your disk.

Use an event with the conditions you actually shoot: repeated models, matching liveries, several viewpoints, numbers you cannot read from where you stand.

Time the whole route: grouping, corrections, editing, upload, publication. Our June 2026 validation, on 176 rider identities held out of training, 6,505 photographs, reports retrieval mAP 0.991, B³ precision 0.996 and B³ recall 0.863. The RaceLabs website is optional: €600 for the base template, live in under a week, carrying full-resolution photos and video, personalised work quoted separately.

Your branding leads; RaceLabs appears only in a discreet footnote. Sales carry no RaceLabs commission, though your payment provider still charges its fees. Reasonable storage is included, exceptional use billed per TB at market price, app usage and setup priced separately.

Can I use RaceLabs to sort car trackday and race photos?

Yes. Bring a whole event, ideally one with similar cars and repeated liveries: that is where grouping by vehicle rather than by number earns its keep.

Does grouping a car identify its driver?

No. The collection is the car. A shared or endurance entry needs stint information before a gallery carries a name: a number identifies the entry, not the driver.

What if the race number is missing or hidden?

Nothing changes. RaceLabs groups on vehicle signature, so obscured, blurred and never-fitted numbers still reach the right collection; the number only decides its name.

Can I correct a mixed group or combine photos of the same car?

Yes. Collections merge, split, rename and take reassigned images. Similar liveries, shared cars and odd angles belong in your first event.

Does RaceLabs choose and edit the best photographs for me?

No. Grouping brings a car’s photographs together. Which frames you deliver, and how they look, is your edit: RaceLabs stops where your taste starts.

Can I work with RAW files and Lightroom Classic?

The desktop workflow sorts JPEG and supported RAW. Website publishing takes full-resolution JPEG exports, uploaded by the Lightroom Classic plugin. Run your own camera files first: a sorted RAW is not a gallery-ready file.

Can I include video?

Yes. Supported video sits alongside the photographs, with grouped delivery and clip generation; the connected website carries full-resolution photos and video. Test your own footage first.

Do I need a RaceLabs website to use the sorter?

No. Grouped files save into ordinary folders on your disk, and plenty of photographers stop there. The website is optional: prepare files, upload the event, publish.

How long will sorting and delivery take?

Sorting runs up to 7,000 images per minute end to end on a fast connection. Editing, upload and publication set the real deadline, so time a full event first.

What does 0% RaceLabs sales commission cover?

RaceLabs takes nothing from photo and video sales through the website offer. Website setup, app usage, personalised work, exceptional storage and payment-provider fees sit outside it.

Which computers can use RaceLabs?

Installers cover Windows, Linux, and macOS on both Apple Silicon and Intel. Send your operating system, camera formats and any video, and we will confirm the setup.

What does sorting an event cost?

Your first sorting event is free. After that, sorting starts at €0.01 per photo with no subscription: 5,000 photos cost €50. Volume bands step down to €0.004, each rate applying within its band, and the count resets yearly. Send your file mix and volume and we will set the quote and scope.
